Types of Leaders

Types of Leaders in Modern Workplaces

Leadership style determines how a leader uses the power given to him to lead the team. An efficient and strong team consists of different types of people, where each employee can give the best to work together and build a competent team. The team can be led by one manager, but there will definitely be more than one leader.

What are the types of leaders?

  • People – oriented

This style of management focuses on collaboration. Decision-making takes place in a group, with everyone involved. Also, part of the responsibility is entrusted to subordinates, which promotes the ability to work independently. This type of leader is especially important in a team of young people, because the millennium generation is ambitious, independent and will value the assignment of responsibility. However, because the hierarchy is not strictly defined, in some cases the boundaries between subordinates and the manager may disappear, which makes it difficult to structure work and respond to crisis situations.

  • Leader – mentor

This management style is based on sharing and providing feedback. This type of leader regularly shares his experience and knowledge with the team. Time is invested in enriching the team and its professional growth, as well as the personal growth of each member. These leadership mentors invest resources in training and challenge the team to sharpen their skills so that they can achieve their goals both in and out of the office. In order for this type of management to be as effective as possible, mentoring coaches or leaders should regularly review priorities and visualize the expected results in order to teach only what is necessary for achieving the goal.

  • Team builder

The leader type of a team builder is strongly focused on creating the most effective team. This leader will spend a lot of time understanding each part of the team, each employee individually, and having a different approach to each team member. Leading a team according to this principle is time consuming and requires a lot of manager’s attention and resources. This management style allows you to create a team based on effective action at the individual level, and bringing the team together makes it even stronger. Each team member will be different, and it is the leader’s responsibility to know how each one works individually to form the best possible team.

  • Transformation leader

The type of transformation leader inspires and motivates their workforce without having to check the fulfillment of each duty. They allow their subordinates to make their own decisions about the tasks or projects entrusted to them. It is a leadership that aims to give employees more opportunities to be creative, look to the future and find new solutions to problems, allowing them to be independent in the workplace. This type of leader is especially needed in companies operating in a highly competitive market, as such companies must constantly think about maintaining or improving their position.

  • A brave visionary

This type of leader is based on ingenuity, ideas and the ability to mobilize teams for change. A leader who is able to be a pilot of some kind of vision is a benefit in any business that is ready to expand. Such a person creates an environment in which employees take risks with confidence and want to overcome the storm. Process improvement and efficiency are the driving force behind visionary leadership. The visionary turns his vision into reality by creating a bright goal image that the company must achieve and a specific strategic plan for the future. The manager details the company’s goals and the specific responsibilities of each team member.

You may have already seen yourself in one of these types of leaders described above, or you may aspire to be one of them. Of course, each type of leadership has its strengths as well as weaknesses. However, any leader in a modern workplace must be able to motivate its various employees, drive innovation and set an example for their subordinates in order for the company to grow and develop. Be one of these leaders!
